Dear Marathoner,
As we get ready for ING New York City Marathon season, we have important information for you for Marathon Day. Today we are announcing a new No-Baggage Policy designed to ease finish-line congestion and provide a better and safer post-race experience. As a result, you will no longer be able to check baggage at the start of the race and there will be no baggage retrieval after the finish.
The post-race walk-off has historically been too long and too congested, and was overwhelmingly the number-one complaint of our runners for years. With the new policy, you will no longer converge in a narrow, crowded area and walk nearly a mile to retrieve checked baggage. Our streamlined exit plan is expected to speed your exit from Central Park by as much as 30 minutes.
We worked in close partnership with the City to develop the best solution that provides a positive runner experience while minimizing impact on the surrounding neighborhoods. After a great deal of planning, our policy has recently been finalized.
Please read about the new race-day experience and feel free to reach out to our customer service helplines (details below) to get the complete picture. As always, we want to provide the best possible race-day experience for you to make this the event of a lifetime.
Yours in running,
THE NEW RACE-DAY EXPERIENCE
• You can bring clothing and food with you to the start area in a clear plastic bag that you'll receive at the expo. The difference this year is that you will not be able to check this bag for transport to the finish.
• Thanks to a major new initiative with Goodwill Industries and UPS, you will be able to leave warm-up clothing at Fort Wadsworth to be donated to provide a positive benefit to the community.
• You can communicate with friends and family, free of charge, at new NYRR "Call Home" stations at the start and the finish.
• Shortly after you cross the finish line, you'll receive a United Airlines and Foot Locker Heatsheet and Recovery Bag presented by Hospital for Special Surgery. Then upon exiting the park, you'll receive a water-repellent, hooded, and fleece-lined Marathon Finish Line Poncho.
• Shortly after you exit the park, you'll be able to reunite with your loved ones in our new and improved Family Reunion area.
