Short statement on my race in Kona:
Had my best ever swim (fast AND easy).
1k into the bike I hit a pothole and my front hydration came off. I stopped and put it back on. Got some tape from tech bikes to fix it.
20k into the bike I received a 4min penalty for entering into a gap between two riders that was very little smaller than two times the distance that you should keep. Nothing unusual but
not 100% according to the rules. So yes you can give that penalty but I saw riders entering smaller gaps about 150times on raceday. And no, I could not have avoided it.
60km into the bike I realized my bottle was leaking (as a result of crashing on the street at 45km/h) and why it was emptying so fast. So bottom-line it was difficult to get the fluids and nutrition in consistently. I felt that slightly on the bike and heavily on the last 20km on the run.
At the end I ended up in no-mans land (21st) but never gave up and was happy to get my 3rd straight Kona finish.
Obviously I am disappointed with my result but proud of my mental attitude. And I loved every single (but maybe 4) minutes of the race. Better luck next time.
Cheers Andi
