Die Qualifikation war ja ein Ergebnis des zunehmenden Zuspruches von Triathleten am Rennen selbst, einige Zeit bevor die WTC zu dem wurde, was sie heute ist.
Nichtsdestotrotz war es eine feste Forderung von John Collins, dass Ironman auch immer für Nicht-Qualifikanten offen sein sollte.
Und im Übrigen zieht der Ironman gerade aus den menschlichen "Schicksalen" einen Großteil seiner Faszination.
