"She had been cycling for pleasure in the Lanín National Park in the west of the country when a Jeep pulled alongside and the driver asked if she was training for the duathlon taking place in the park the next day.
When she said no, the driver asked if she would like to take part, to which she replied, 'Why not?' It turned out to be a world championship race, with professional athletes being flown in for the event, which combined off–road running and mountain–biking.
Wellington took the lead from the outset and never lost it, but had no idea what to do with the trophy she was presented with afterwards; too embarrassed to leave it behind, she ended up going on a cycle tour with her friends with the big cup sticking out of her panniers."
