Kyle Garlett was here today celebrating the third year anniversary of his heart transplant.

In October, 2006, as Kyle Garlett was preparing for that heart transplant, he couldn't even walk up a flight of stairs or help carry in the groceries from the car. A four-time cancer survivor, Garlett's heart was weakened after a bone marrow transplant and chemo and radiation therapy that went along with it.

20 years after he was first diagnosed with cancer, Garlett is just thrilled to be alive. He still remembers just hoping to make it to Christmas in 1997 after dealing with yet another bout of cancer.

“Saturday is going to be the exclamation of my survival of cancer and my heart transplant,” he said of his race here in Kona.

Today Garlett didn't make the swim cut off. He was just interviewed at the swim finish and put it all in perspective ... he's here and alive, which is an incredible achievement in and of itself.

Sollten sich gewisse hier manchmal nicht zu weit aus dem Fenster lehnen...
