Dygert is coached in Boise, Idaho, by Kristin Armstrong, who has won the past three Olympic gold medals in the individual time trial. Armstrong, who was not at the race, told Cyclingnews that doctors were concerned about the laceration.

"It’s horrifying and sickening, and it’s going to be a hard recovery for Chloe," Armstrong told the cycling website. "But I always have to look at the good news, and that is that Chloe is in good hands, people are taking care of her and she has as a good team around her."
