Bei einer Rede vor dem japanischen Parlament hat der dortige Finanzminister Taro Aso die Austragung der Olympischen Sommerspiele 2020 infrage gestellt. Selbst wenn Japan die Ausbreitung des Coronavirus stoppen könne, machten die Spiele keinen Sinn, wenn andere Länder ihre Athleten nicht nach Japan schicken könnten. Zudem sollten die Wettkämpfe in einer "sicheren und glücklichen" Atmosphäre ausgetragen werden.

Die Olympischen Sommerspiele sind in der Zeit vom 24. Juli bis zum 9. August geplant.
