Geraint Thomas tweeted about the incident after the race, saying that three of his teammates had broken front wheels during the stage, including Diego Rosa and fellow GC hope Mikel Landa. The team waited for the riders and finished together, coming in 18th on the stage, 1:36 down on the winners Team BMC. This puts the GC hopes of Thomas and Landa likely out of reach.
