Ford Ironman Cozumel

Jetzt läuft ja der Ironman Cozumel. Bilder gibt es ja hier, von Dude
Sehr interessant finde ich, daß endlich mal ein echter Weltklasse Marathonläufer am Start ist:
2-Time New York Marathon Champion tackles Ford Ironman Cozumel

German Silva is a household in amongst athletes in Mexico. The two – time New York Marathon winner in the mid 90’s that elevated him too national hero status amongst the running circles. Take a look at his personal bests:

* 3000 metres steeplechase - 8:33.52 minutes (1989)
* 5000 metres - 13:26.11 minutes (1993)
* 10,000 metres - 27:46.52 minutes (1992)
* Half marathon - 1:00:28 hours (1994)
* Marathon - 2:08:56 hours (1998)

Now at 41, his is taking run at Ironman racing. His transition from running to triathlon hasn’t beeb an easy one for the gifted athlete that excelled at a number of running distances. “In my first swim training I swam 50 meters and I had to take a 2 minute rest,” laughing at himself. He went on to say, “I never have experienced so much lactic acid build-up.”

Just like so many natural athletes, Silva has excelled at his new found sport. He has posted a 2:17 best time at the Olympic distance and a 4:56 timing in his only 70.3 race.

“I think I prepared myself well, with the same philosophy as marathon training and my challenge is to break 3 hours in the marathon, and I will be very happy to finish below 10 hours,” talking about his expectations of himself this weekend.

When asked about his expectations of himself at Ironman Cozumel he confidently stated, “I think I prepared myself well, with the same philosophy as marathon training and my challenge is to break 3 hours in the marathon, and I will be very happy to finish below 10 hours.”

It will be interesting to see how Silva’s race unfolds here in Cozumel on Sunday. He has that excellent pedigree to start with, and there is no doubt that pedigree will propel him towards becoming an Ironman.
