"Obviously not the day I was hoping for yesterday at the @ironmantri North American Championship. I cannot remember when I have ever invested (physically, mentally and financially) more in a race than I had done prior to this one. My body was screamingly ready to fire on all cylinders as the gun went off at 06:30 in the morning. Swim went perfectly and I exited the water in just under 50mins feeling fresh and ready to tackle the bike. As I had allowed ~30mins to properly settle in on the bike, I was ready to make my move and went up to the front of the main chase pack to begin the process of trying to close the gap to the front. Following this overtaking of the group I received my first blue card of the day. The only violation that I can think of that I made myself guilty of in this situation was to have spent more than 25s for a takeover, despite pushing almost as hard as I could in order to pass the whole group as fast as possible. I managed to shake off the disappointment of this setback rather quickly and continued to focus on executing the best race possible. However, in a similar situation 30-40mins later, I received yet another blue card. At this point, all chances of being competitive in the race was gone and I decided to DNF.
I have the highest respect for the referees out on course and I have no doubts that they all are trying their absolute very best to defend the rules of the sport and the spirit of fair play. I cannot be anything other than extremely self-critical at this stage. Finally, I would like to stress that I have never intentionally acted in a way that would give me an unfair advantage against my competitors. Fair play and clean sports are to me two unquestionable fundamentals of sports and far, far more important than any kind performances. Thank you for your continued trust and belief in me, your support is immensely important and simply invaluable to me. My passion for and dedication to the sport has not changed one bit. I will soon be back! "
