Tja, da kann Herr Hallam mal erfahren wie das so ist mit Tabu-Themen. Wenn man sagt, das mit dem Klimawandel ist Blödsinn, erhält man ja ähnliche Reaktionen.

Dabei hat er ja garnicht so Unrecht. Natürlich gab es viele andere grausame Ereignisse. Und ist natürlich auch irgendwie unmenschlich, katastrophale Erreignisse gegeneinander Auszuspielen, was Kritiker an Hallams Gedanke irgendwie tun.

Das klingt jetzt so, als wollte er über den Umweg des Klimaaktivismus Menschen für das Neonazitum akquirieren. Habe mich nicht intensiv mit ihm beschäftigt, aber das scheint mir nicht der Fall zu sein.

Dort kommt "Holocaust" exakt einmal vor und es scheint mir im Zusammenhang vertretbar (S. 14/15):

"Let’s be frank about what ‘catastrophe’ actually means in this context.
We are looking here at the slow and agonising suffering and death of
billions of people.
A moral analysis might go like this: one recent scientific opinion5
stated that at 5C above the pre-industrial mean temperature, we are
looking at an ecological system capable of sustaining just one billion
people. That means 6-7 billion people will have died within the next
generation or two. Even if this figure is wrong by 90%, that means
600 million people face starvation and death in the next 40 years.
This is 12 times worse than the death toll (civilians and soldiers) of
World War Two and many times the death toll of every genocide
known to history. It is 12 times worse than the horror of Nazism and
Fascism in the Twentieth Century.
This is what our genocidal governments around the world are willingly
allowing to happen. The word genocide might seem out of context
here. The word is often associated with ethnic cleansing or major

question of the necessary societal and political response."

Wenn man die Gefahr als real ansieht, dass der Klimawandel hunderte Millionen Millionen oder gar Milliarden Tote fordern wird (darüber lässt sich vermutlich streiten), ist es nicht abwegig, dies zahlenmäßig mit den bisher größten Katastrophen der Menschheitsgeschichte zu vergleichen, ohne diese dadurch zu verharmlosen.

Sein Zitat im Zeit-Interviewausschnitt erinnert dagegen ungut an Gaulands "Fliegenschiss":
"Roger Hallam, co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, has said the Holocaust was "just another fuckery in human history"."

Ich nehme an, dass er das auch dort in Relation zur Klimakatastrophe gesetzt hat, aber das ist leider nicht ersichtlich.

Mit Interesse gefragt: glaubst du an solche Zahlen?

Bei 2 Milliarden Opfern ("Milliarden"... Plural... als Minunum 2) in 50 Jahren ("next
generation or two....") wären das 40 Millionen pro Jahr bei einem linearen Verlauf (wäre es wahrscheinlich nicht, spielt aber keine Rolle) ab sofort. Und dabei habe ich die Untergrenze genommen.

Wie kommen solche Zahlen überhaupt zustande?

Wer Völkermord oder speziell den Holocaust mit Katastrophenopfern aufgrund der Erdwärmung vergleicht und gleichsetzt, muss natürlich mit deutlicher Kritik von allen Seiten rechnen. Der Vergleich ist IMHO inhaltlich, politisch, rechtlich völlig unzutreffend, weil es sich weder um Mord noch gezielt um ein Volk handelt.

Da ich die Quelle noch nicht gecheckt habe, kann ich mir noch kein Urteil bilden.

zur Einordnung... Alleine 2007 sind bereits 9.000.000 Menschen an Hunger gestorben.

Natürlich hinkt der Vergleich - wie viele Vergleiche.
Aber so stark hinkt der Vergleich auch wieder nicht, denn im Wesentlichen verursacht der reiche Norden die Katastrophe, unter der im Wesentlichen der arme Süden leidet.

Angenommen, die Zahlen stimmen halbwegs (Hallam nimmt als Beispiel nur 10 % ), dann ist es mit Abstand die größte je dagewesene Katastrophe. Und im Gegensatz zu den meisten Katastrophen wäre sie vermeidbar.

Wäre es irgendwie vertretbar, nichts dagegen zu tun, obwohl man es könnte?
