Bei uns ist nächstes Jahr das letzte der Kinder mit der Schule fertig (sofern nix dazwischen kommt ...:dresche ), wir sind also noch freier, als wir es in den letzten Jahren schon waren.

Und ja, die Fahrt ist auch von Lindau lange:
Knapp sieben Stunden bis Piombino, eine Stunde Fahrt und dann noch ca. 30min nach Marina di Campo.
Aber wir fahren gerne Auto, daher empfinden wir das nicht als Stress, allerdings bleiben wir auch immer eine Woche auf Elba, also von Di bis Di.

Ich freue mich auf jeden Fall auf den Elbaman 2015

Wir haben den Elbaman auch fest eingeplant. Bin noch unsicher ob MD oder LD, aber das hat ja noch ein paar Tage Zeit.

Ansonsten wird es ein netter Trip durch Oberitalien mit einer Woche Ausspannen auf der Insel. Freu mich schon auf die Radstrecke.. :Huhu:

Sie ist die welche bei uns am wenigsten nach Elba will (u.a. wegen langer Fahrt).

Für eine Woche ginge es eher. Es kommt auch darauf an, wie/wo man Auto fährt.
Im Herbst 13 haben wir in Australien in 21 Tagen gegen 8000km gemacht. Aber dort ist das Autoifahren deutlich entspnannter als in der dichbesiedelten Schweiz und Italien mit überfüllten Autobahnen.
Und es war Reisen und nicht Ferien.

Ich werde nächsten Herbst dann wohl schon mit etwas Wehmut an Elba(man) denken. Ich war vor über 30 Jahren erstmals auf Elba und komme immer wieder gerne zurück.

Jetzt brauch ich die Hilfe von den Routiniers:
eigentlich dachte ich an ein Mobilhome auf dem Campingplatz, beim Stöbern bin ich auch auf diverse Ferienwohnungen gestossen und heute gab es die Info auf der HP über Fähr-u.Hotelpackage.
Habt ihr einen schönen Tip für ne günstige Ferienwohnung für 2 Pers. und könnt ihr mir das mit dem über den Elbaman buchbaren Paket erklären.

Willst du in MArina di Campo selbst eine Wohnung? Wir sind immer in Cavoli und auch Secchetto sind kleine Orte 10 Minuten von Marina di Campo. Uns gefällt es dort aber viel besser (Strand viel schöner).

registrations still open, actually we have about 450 athletes in the lists for half-full and relay Team race.

This year main News on is on the race course.
Marina di Campo has chenged a Little ist internal mobility, so we had to discuss some light Variations in the running course.
Now we have a unique lap of 7k that Need to be completed 3 times for Elbaman73 (half) and 6 times for Elbaman (full)

Since last year the full distance course was on 5 laps.

The course is very similar mostly totally flat and fast with several passage in the town Center (2 times each lap) and with 5 aid Station each lap.

I am sure it will be appreciated because the most "boring" and far part of the run course near the Airport no more exist :)

That is a good improvment. Even on the 70.3 course the run there was the most boring (no spectator) and hot part (no shade).

If it was closer to Switzerland I would be back this September.

Eine Frage an die erfahrenen Elba-Starter: :Huhu:

müssen wir bei Anreise am 21.9. (Montag vor dem Rennen) zwingend eine Fähre buchen oder fährt man da vor und einfach so auf einen Dampfer drauf....?

Ich habe das vor drei Jahren auch so gemacht und hatte bei der Hinfahrt keine Probleme. (Und bei vielen anderen Elba-Aufenthalten vorher auch nie) ABER:
Auf der Rückfahrt am Samstag eine Woche später war die Fähre von morgens bis spätnachmittags komplett ausgebucht und wir mussten den ganzen Tag beim Hafen bleiben, weil uns für jede Fähre eine Restchance in Aussicht gestellt wurde. Ausserdem haben wir dann letztendlich den Autoreisezug in Verona verpasst, was bedeutete, daß ich mit meiner Frau und den Kindern die Nacht auf verschiedenen Autobahnen in Italien, der Schweiz, in Öserreich und Deutschland bis Hamburg verbracht habe.
An dem WE war Ferienende in der Schweiz und die organisierten Schweizer buchen alle vor!
Lange Rede kurzer Sinn, wenn ihr nicht so flexibel seid, bucht einfach vor!

Ich war bis jetzt zweimal dort, bin jeweils Dienstag um ca. 18.-19.00 Uhr mit der Fähre rüber eine Woche später Dienstagmittag mit der Fähre zurück:

Ticket kaufen, auf Fähre fahren - fertig.
Wir hatten weder Stau noch Probleme mit dem Ticket.
Evtl. ist es montags anders?

Du musst nichts vorbuchen. Wir waren schon oft auf Elba und haben nie reserviert. Zu dieser Jahreszeit sind die italienischen Schulferien schon vorbei (und in der Schweiz haben nur wenige Schulferien). Und an einem Montag ist es sowieso kein Problem.
Der Vorteil ist, dass du dann schneller drüben bist da du sonst einiges an Reservezeit einplanen musst.

Für die Rückfahrt haben wir jeweils ein paar Tage vorher vor Ort (Marina di Campo gerade gegenüber Wechselzone) damit wir sicher einen Platz auf einer frühen Fähre hatten.

the positive is that MOBY allows to switch the ticket to another ferry accordingly to the places available (and it's almost never a problem in september)

Let's start with a good news: in Elbaman we have always used Neo, allowed. Water temperature is usually 19-21°C in late September and you can swim without neo and no Problem, but it's allowed and 99% of competitors use it.

Yes the bad News is that actually we are living in Italy the hottest summer of maybe last 100years. Worse than 2003 summer.
I do not live in Elba, but 500km Northern near Como Lake (swiss border) and in the last 3 weeks temperature during the day is always over 35-36°C and in the night 22-24°C and humid. That is AWFUL. I have done a swim in the lake 4 days ago and the water was HOT I think more than 25/26°C.

BUT septmber is far, thinks can Change a lot and, in caso of doubt (temperature near the Limit), Marshals are used to allow Neo for safety.

I want also to reassure everyone about 2 Facts that let the swim in Elba be easy and safe:
- depth of the water is low, Maximum 4-5meters in the farest Point of the bay and you can see the bottom quite always. Usually about first 50-80m of the lap (and also last) you can swim/walk with water around 80-100cm.
- we have plenty of kayak and boat and rescue Service ppl

I have swam in many different places during my almost 19years of races and I Need to be franck: Elbaman swim course is one of the easyest and safe and nice, and not because I organize the race.
One of the only one swim even better I have done was in Ironman Taiwan last April, similar in a quiet bay.

don't worry, if you Train in a lake you will feel perfect in Elba !
