IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Taupō - Postponed
Based on the current New Zealand government policies and international border restrictions in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship cannot take place as planned on 28 - 29 November 2020.

The decision was made after careful consideration with our local partners and authorities to assess the feasibility of hosting the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship this November in accordance with the guidance on mass gatherings and border and travel restrictions, as well as athlete qualification opportunities and other issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic beyond our control. Based on the information we have to date, and to provide sufficient notice to our athletes and the community of Taupō, it is clear the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship cannot proceed as originally planned.

We are continuing to work diligently with all stakeholders to secure a new race date for early 2021. Updates on a decision will be shared as soon as possible.

keine Ahnung... aber dass es nur am Corona Virus liegt kann ich nicht glauben.
Ich glaube, dass IM auch die wirtschaftliche Situation anschauen wird und vermutlich
wären für 2020 gar nicht mehr genug Slots zu vergeben.
Sollte das Rennen auf 2021 verschoben werden und im Frühjahr stattfinden, dann wäre das ja aber ähnlich.

Kurz zusammengefasst: Neuseeland ist Corona-frei und man plant, mit Australien eine "Reisezone" zu bilden, on der sich die Einwohner frei bewegen können. Alle anderen kommen nur unter strengsten Auflagen ins Land. Der Zustand kann angeblich "Jahre" anhalten.

Aber dann ist wohl auch 2021 noch mit "postponed" zu rechnen.

Momentan kann doch jeder nur hoffen und würfeln, wie es in 6 oder 12 oder 24 Monaten aussieht. Ich denke aber, dass NZ seine restriktive Einreisepolitik durchziehen wird. Sie haben das bislang schon bei vermeintlich kleineren Dingen wie eingeschleppten Wurstbroten durchgezogen. Und 14 Tage Einreise-Quarantäne für alle Sportler lassen so eine Veranstaltung undurchführbar werden.
